2 Big Steps In Our Life
Last Thursday, dear and I took half day leave to do a very important thing, an almost nerve-wrecking and sweat-churning affair. This round of balloting exercise which consists of Hougang, Sengkang and Punggol areas, has about 5000 applicants with only 316 flats available. After 2 failure attempts, dear and I were really anxious to see if we could get a better queue number this time. Our number was 363. It was not bad and not good enough too. So we prayed alot for God to reveal his will for us.
Everyday, we spend parts of the office hours to check the availability online. Days before our appointment. we crossed out those which were taken by other applicants and re-ranked our preferences. We even went down to the sites to evaluate things like the exposure of the flat to morning and evening sun, the convenience to MRT/LRT stations and the accessibility to hawker centres, church, grocery stalls and other facilities.
We really must thanked God for His blessings such that on our appointmeny day, we were able to book the flat that we ranked as our first choice after all the elimination. We were totally satisfied with what we chose amongst our limitations. So in a few years time, we will be moving into Fernvale Vista!
Another big progress in our relationship was our participation in the Catholic Engaged Encounter. We were the 388th batch since it started globally in 1968. During the weekend at ME House, we encountered couples with different issues. There were those who are getting married very soon, some who had no wedding plans yet, some who were married under the civil law but wished to have a church wedding and some others. We both think that the course is essential for all Catholics to attend. It is guarantee to learn something, either on marriage itself or from your partner. There were times when things could get very emotional when we honestly shared with each other. Someone even proposed at the end of the weekend causing not just girls but guys to tear unstoppingly. The whole weekend focused on 1-1 dialogue between the couples on issues such as sexuality, family planning, finance, morality, unity, values etc. It was very comprehensive and everyone came home gaining something precious. Now, I am more confident to be a good husband and father in the future.
We are thankful to Father Chusmi Jesus Maria Hernandez for his effort in linking all the topics to the Catholic context. We like to thank the Kwok family (Joseph + Terri with 8 wonderful children) for their sacrifices made and blessings this weekend. We appreciate Alan and Marie for their honest sharing of their married life. We also are grateful for the work that the house couples had done to make sure that the weekend went on smoothly. Thank you all for participating in this part of the journey in our life.
